My Creative Process
My work is the culmination of many years spent exploring both photography and fine art.
I studied photography extensively while living in Cambridge, long before the invention of digital cameras, and have continued to develop my skills through many years of practice and further study. Alongside photography, I have worked across a wide range of artistic disciplines, including textiles, oils, acrylics, charcoal, pastel, and mixed media, exhibiting my work in galleries both in the UK and abroad.
The artworks featured in the Algarve Art Collection draw upon all of these experiences.
Each piece begins with my own original photography, captured while living and travelling in Portugal. These photographs are then carefully developed in my studio using a combination of painting techniques .Through this process, the original image evolves into a new artwork that reflects my personal artistic vision and painterly style. .
Watercolors and pastels even of the best quality can fade quite quickly, especially in the light that we have in the Mediterranean. To preserve these images I scan them then print them on museum quality paper with museum quality inks .This produces what is referred to as a Giclee print . These quality of Prints are reported to last up to 200 years. I’m afraid I haven’t been able to prove that.
The resulting artwork is produced as a museum-quality archival giclée print on carefully selected fine art paper using archival pigment inks.
Once printed, every limited-edition piece is individually hand-finished by me using a combination of ink, pencil, pastel, and mixed media. This additional handwork ensures that each print possesses its own subtle individuality and character.
All artworks are released as limited editions of just twelve prints. Each piece is individually signed and numbered.
By combining original photography, digital artistry, and traditional hand-finishing techniques, I aim to create timeless, atmospheric works that capture the light, colour, and quiet beauty of Portugal.
All artworks begin with my own original photography and are developed through a combination of digital artistry and traditional hand-finishing techniques. No stock imagery is used, and every limited-edition print is individually enhanced by hand.
