My Creative Journey & Process

My work is the culmination of many years spent exploring both photography and fine art.

I studied photography extensively while living in Cambridge, long before the arrival of digital cameras, and have continued to develop my skills through years of practice and further study. Alongside photography, I have worked across a wide range of artistic disciplines, including watercolour, oils, acrylics, pastel,  charcoal, pencils,, textiles and mixed media, exhibiting my work in galleries in both the UK and abroad.

Artwork in the Algarve Art Collection begins with my original photography, captured while living and travelling throughout Portugal and other countries . These photographs are not simply edited; they become the starting point for a new artistic journey. Using a combination of watercolour, pastel, ink and mixed media techniques, I gradually transform each image into a soft, atmospheric interpretation that reflects my own artistic vision.

Traditional watercolours and pastels, beautiful though they are, can fade over time, particularly in the strong Mediterranean light. To preserve each artwork, I professionally scan the finished original and produce a museum-quality archival giclée print using premium fine art paper and archival pigment inks. These materials are recognised for their exceptional colour accuracy and longevity, with an expected lifespan of up to 200 years under normal display conditions—although I'm afraid I won't be around to prove it!

The creative process doesn't end there. Every limited edition print is individually hand finished by me using archival inks, pencil and other mixed media techniques. This final stage ensures that every piece has its own subtle character, meaning no two artworks are ever exactly alike.

Each artwork is:

• Created from my original photography
• Produced as a strictly limited edition .
• Printed as a museum-quality archival giclée on premium fine art paper.
• Individually hand-finished using professional archival mixed media.
• Signed and numbered by me.
• Supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.

My hope is that every piece captures not only the beauty of Portugal and other places I have visited , but also the atmosphere and gentle light, quiet moments and timeless sense of place. I create artwork to be lived with and enjoyed for many years, bringing a little of calm and beauty into your home.
